Flight delay due to mouse on board is subject to compensation

A mouse in an airplane can sometimes lead to an immense flight delay. Just recently, there was a judgement that it was the airline’s responsibility to prevent small animals such as mice from getting on board.

What led to this verdict? Travellers on their way from Berlin via Istanbul to Dalman had to wait many hours for their feeder flight because a mouse had been discovered on the pre-flight. The plane was completely searched and did not reach its destination Dalaman until one day later.

The plaintiffs demanded 400 Euro compensation and were proved right, because the court saw the fact that mice could get on board not as an extraordinary circumstance, but as a controllable event on the part of the airline.
